Ricardo Llorca invites us in this Cantata, a commissioned work by the S.A.M.I Cathedral of Santiago, to delve into the encounter with ourselves through the path that must be initiated to reach that state of light and inner peace. To do so, he has not only turned to the Codex Calixtinus, a manuscript from the mid-12th century, and homilies of Popes Francis and Benedict XVI, but also incorporates texts collected in the pilgrimage diaries of his relative Concha Llorca Zaragoza as a result of the composer's own inner pilgrimage.
Ricardo Llorca
Ricardo Llorca is one of the most recognizable Hispanic-American composers in the international music scene. Llorca studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid with Román Alis and Antón García Abril as his main teachers. He also trained with Luigi Nono, Carmelo Bernaola, and Luis de Pablo in the advanced courses of the Granada Festival.
Llorca has experience in multiple disciplines and stands out for his work as associate director at The New York Opera Society, and as a programmer of cycles and seasons in institutions such as The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (New York City), The Embassy of Italy in Washington DC, The National Gallery in Washington DC, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, United Nations (New York City), The World Financial Center (New York City), the Toulouse Opera, Chicago Cultural Center, and the Philharmonic of St. Petersburg.
